The Boom Shakalaka crew has been involved in organising a club night called Sabor, which is all about Latin & Brazilian flavors. In the summer 2012, we had some great terrace parties at mbar and one of them featured a live performance by Elmayonesa and MC Pincho. We managed to catch some of that performance on video! Maaad ting! The next Sabor party is on Saturday 27 October, when we are excited to present a performance by one of the pioneers of electronic cumbia, El Hijo de la Cumbia.

Cumbia: Pibes Chetos - El Padrino

Straight from BA / Argentina. Pibes Chetos play cumbia versions of pop and rock hits. As far as I know, this rocking Godfather theme is the only studio recording so far. Some live recordings are also available on their website. Thanks to Olli for the tip. Looking forward to more of this!

Dj Emil live set: 200 minutes of cumbia and latin madness!

Encouraged by some guests at one of my shows, I recorded one of my latin sets a few weeks back. From a total of four hours of material, not to make the file too big and long, I cut out a nice 200 minutes slice from the middle of the set. I had a good time playing and you may hear the Peruvian moonshine kick in at some point when the mixing is no longer so smooth :-). Tropical Cumbia: Sonora - Isa GT Pa'Chikirri Remix EP

Well, here's another world-around-twister: Isa GT is from Colombia, but lives in London. You might remember her from the tune Pela'O that the italian fidget monsters Crookers remixed back in 2008. Well now Isa Gt (you ever wondered if the GT comes from Gin Tonic?) has got that one and others officially out on Man Recordings as Pa'Chikirri EP. And here's a cumbia remix set of the same EP with tropical dub vibes from Sonora, who is a global beats enthusiast from San Antonio, Texas.

Yes, accordeon is the new black (suom. hanuri on uusi musta) and Acorde On from Mexico knows it. I came across this hill-billy Daft Punk mash-up on soundcloud and I found myself quite liking it. I mean, how silly can you go before it's too silly? Well, when we're talking about getting drunk, partying, throwing your hands in the air like you just don't care and dancing till you drop THERE IS NO LIMIT!

Cumbia: Max le Daron - Rave Cumbiaton EP

Originally cumbia comes from Latin America, but as many other latin rhythms, it has found a fertile spreading ground in Europe. And sometimes it leads to surprisingly explosive new sounds. Belgiem doesn't sound like the cumbia country number one, but that's where Max le Daron comes from. And as the name of EP suggests, his cumbia has a strong rave twist on it. Many times I've felt other cumbia tracks "too slow" for the dancefloor, but these bangers just keep building into the massive euphoric climax. I mean, they're 100 bpm, but still gettin the floor on fire and hands up in the air.
